| Punjab Lahore district govt completes 495
schemes in city
LAHORE, Aug 27 (APP)- The Lahore city
district government has completed 495
development schemes in the provincial capital at
a cost of Rs 282 million to help alleviate the
civic problems of this second most populous town
of the country.
" We were able in completing 276 schemes with
federal and provincial governments' financial
assistance during the year 2001-02," said Lahore
City District Nazim, Mian Aamir Mahmood here
Tuesday.
He said , of Rs 215 million funds provided by
the federal and provincial governments,
the district government spent Rs 209.03 million
, showing utilization rate of 97 percent.
Talking about the mega projects being carried
out in the Punjab capital, he said, with the
signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for
the development of 25-Kilometres long Light
Transit Rail (LTR) system on August 24 last ,
the long time dream of the Lahorites was going
to be fulfilled soon.
He said that the district government was also
planning to construct a modern abbatoir in the
city to ensure slaughtering of the animals and
processing of the meat in line with
international standards.
For this purpose, he said, a piece of land
over 700 kanals had been acquired.
" The construction of abattoir with a
state-of-the-art technology will help increase
Pak meat exports besides ensuring availability
of hygienically good meat for Lahorites," Mian
Aamir Mahmood said.
On computerization of land record, he said
that the district government was planning to
issue licenses to the property dealers against
huge security amount after the completion of
on-going computerization process of provincial
capital's revenue and land
record.
These property dealers, having limited access
to the computerized land record, would be
authorised to issue 'fard' of the property ,
thus ending the monopoly of the patwaris.
Nazim said that the computerization process
would be completed by next year.
" We have been able in getting the record of
six out of 180 patwar circles of the district
computerized so far," he said
.
He said that Lahore was far ahead of Kasur
and Sialkot in terms of computerization of land
record.
He said that the computerization of
domiciles, arms licenses and data about stolen
vehicles was in progress.
He said that people can register their
complaints with the nazim office just by sending
an email on the address of nazim@lahore.gov.pk.
Talking about the steps taken by the district
government in the field of education, he said
that the city government was planning to set up
a premier educational institution where the
children of educated lower-middle class educated
parents would have facility to have quality
education.
Mian Aamir Mahmood said that 329 development
schemes worth Rs 82.113 million in the
educational sector had been completed.
" 12 schools have been declared as model
learning centres, equipped with science labs,
computer labs and libraries," he said.
Mian Aamir Mahmood said that the solid waste
management wing of Metropolitan Corporation
Lahore (MCL) was able to lift only 70 percent of
4000 tonnes of garbage generated by the
Lahorites every day.
" Inshallah, we will have more lifting
machinery by next month," he said.
He said that the district government was also
planning to build an intercity bus terminal at a
cost of Rs 250 million.
" Internationl bidding for this project is
under process," he said.
The district nazim said that Lahore Ring Road
project was also being executed at Rs 17
billion.
He said that a Rs 577 million scheme for
elimination of sewage disposal into Lahore canal
had been prepared to ensure better conditions
for the aquatic life in the water channel.
